What to expect from the Seattle Seahawks this season.

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are aiming to bounce back from a breakout year, and they’ll do so by relying heavily on the star duo of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. It has yet to be determined who will be under center as the quarterback battle will be fought in training camp between newcomers Drew Lock and Geno Smith. It has the potential to be a high-flying offense in Seattle.

After trading Russell Wilson, there are plenty of Seahawks with a point to prove and a goal to bounce back in a tough NFC West. Stars DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will look to rekindle their magic with either Drew Lock or Geno Smith, while promising youngster Noah Fant will look to take the field at running back. The defense, led by Jamaal Adams and Quandre Diggs, will struggle to shut down opposing offenses through the air and build their momentum.

Will the team’s new look on both sides of the ball be enough to compete for the Lombardi Trophy this season? The only way to find out is to follow all the action and watch the Seahawks live with NFL Game Pass. Make sure you never miss a moment with live games, daily programming and expert insights throughout the season.

It covers the Seahawks’ 40-34 loss to the Raiders at Lumen Field on Sunday. It featured an overtime loss that came against a team that entered the game 3-7.

Fans can point fingers at a number of plays that went awry. And plenty of players — as quarterback Geno Smith said he would — can point their thumbs. But the “L” faced Seattle on Sunday mainly because of a “D” that was weak at best and non-existent at worst.

“I thought we got it right,” Seahawks safety Condre Diggs said of his team’s defense, which was the worst in the NFL through Seattle’s first five games, the worst in the next four. Excellent, and impotent in the last two. “We fixed it for a while, but it reared its head again. At the end of the day, if we don’t stop the run, we’re not going to get anything done.

The Seahawks (6-5) allowed 283 rushing yards to the Raiders, who ran the ball 40 times. Josh Jacobs accounted for 229 of those yards on 33 carries. It was the second straight game in which Seattle lost to its opponent’s ground attack, as the Buccaneers – who entered the contest as the least productive rushing team in the NFL – put up 161. rushing yards in their win in Munich two weeks ago.

But this most recent loss went beyond the Seahawks’ inability to silence the run. Las Vegas added 293 passing yards en route to 576 total yards on Sunday – the third most Seattle has given up in franchise history.

Sure enough, 123 of those yards came in overtime — including Jacobs’ 86-yard touchdown on first down to win the game. That does nothing to ease the Seahawks’ sinking feeling, though.

The Raiders cruised to an upset victory and, for now, eliminated Seattle from the playoff picture. There’s no telling if the Seahawks can claw their way back into it.

“I think the biggest thing is you just have to make a decision,” Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett said when asked how Seattle gets back on track. “It’s useless to look at what’s happened now, but what we want is right in front of us. It’s not going to be easy.

Right. Although the first few minutes on Sunday indicated that it might actually be quite easy. On the first play from scrimmage, Diggs intercepted Raiders quarterback Derrick Carr, who set up a touchdown two plays later. And even when the Seahawks weren’t taking over due to turnovers — which they did twice Sunday — they were moving downfield with little resistance for most of the afternoon.

Smith went 27-for-37 passing with 328 yards tossing two touchdowns and posted a passer rating of 106.6. It was a stat line reflecting a storybook season in which he is the frontrunner for the league’s Comeback Player of the Year.

But there were mishaps on the offensive end as well—memorable mishaps. The first came when Raiders linebacker Denzel Perryman intercepted Smith on a first down midway through the second quarter and returned it to the Seahawks’ 30, setting up a touchdown on the next play. The second came when Smith was concussed by a miscommunication on second-and-four from Vegas running back Kenneth Walker III’s 23, giving Seattle at least a three-point lead when the score was tied early in the fourth. Should have been done at a distance.
